About: Contra Costa Musical Theatre, Inc. (CCMT) was founded in August 1961, for the express purpose of producing Broadway musicals. Founding members were Walt Schill, Jan O'Gara (a.k.a. Jan Levine) and Jan and Griff Duncan. Other original members were Rick Bruno, Bob and Midge Shusta, and Dick and Peggy Weede. At the first meeting held, 82 people attended and many of them joined the new organization on the spot. Shortly thereafter rehearsals were underway for their first production, "Anything Goes".
CCMT shows have been presented on a variety of stages. Our first two seasons were at the old Mt. Diablo High School Theatre and later shows were at Las Lomas High, Ygnacio Valley High and even Pleasant Hill High School Amphitheater.
Since those early beginnings, CCMT has continued to produce high quality musical theatre entertainment in Walnut Creek. We have performed at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts since its opening in 1990. CCMT produces two productions a year and combines with Diablo Light Opera Company's two productions to offer a four-show season. We have been honored with numerous Shellie Awards and Bay Area Theatre Critic Circle Awards for our productions or artists associated with our productions.
