Hostage US is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports families of Americans who have been taken hostage or wrongfully detained abroad. In addition, they support hostages and detainees in their transition to returning home. Each year, an estimated 200 Americans are taken hostage overseas. Hostage US helps families survive this terrifying ordeal and helps former hostages rebuild their life after captivity.
Meet the Speakers
Liz Cathcart is the Executive Director of Hostage US. She has played a pivotal role since the organization’s inception, helping to launch the nonprofit alongside the founding executive director. As former Director of Programs and Operations, she oversaw day-to-day activities, developed the Support Program, expanded strategic partnerships, and broadened services. She has led Hostage US since 2020, driving its strategic vision and ensuring support for hostages, wrongful detainees, and their families. Liz is a published writer and expert on hostage support. She has been featured in major media outlets and was named one of Security Magazine’s 2023 Most Influential People in Security.
Sam Goodwin is an American entrepreneur, bestselling author and international keynote speaker known for his thought leadership on embracing uncertainty. A former Division I hockey player, Sam co-founded a tech company and NGO in Singapore and is one of the few people to have traveled to all 193 countries in the world. His book, Saving Sam, recounts his experience of being taken hostage and wrongfully imprisoned in Syria. Sam speaks to audiences worldwide, from large corporate events to intimate leadership retreats, inspiring others to embrace challenges with resilience. He holds a bachelor’s from Niagara University, a master’s from Washington University in St. Louis and a doctorate from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
Tickets to this Limited Engagement are $44, or $22 for Urbanite Theatre Insiders (Insiders must purchase their tickets over the phone to receive discount). 20% of proceeds from the event will go to Hostage US.
