The Met: Live in HD Frank and Cruz's El ultimo Sueno de Frida y Diego
The Met's season concludes with Gabriela Lena Frank's El ultimo Sueno de Frida y Diego. This magical-realist opera, featuring a libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz, tells the story of Frida Kahlo returning from the underworld to reunite briefly with Diego Rivera. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard and baritone Carlos Álvarez star as the iconic artists, portraying both the passion and pain of their legendary love. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts this Met-premiere production.
Directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker, the staging draws vivid inspiration from Frida and Diego's paintings and has been praised for its bold color and emotional depth.
