The Symphony of the Hills presents the final concert in the 2023-24 season, Larger Than Life: Family & Friends, on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 7 pm in the Cailloux Theater.

This concert is dedicated to those who lift up others, those families, friends, and associates who are “larger than life.”

For our final concert of this season, we return to Elgar who enshrined his closest friends in the music of his Enigma Variations. Elgar’s mystery theme is presented according to the character traits of his family and friends in sometimes outlandish settings, and sometimes in somber beauty. Next we present Pachelbel’s Canon in D, one of the most popular classical works of all time and commonly used in weddings, funerals, and other celebrations of those we love. Our concert concludes with a presentation of Tchaikovsky’s famous Piano Concerto Number 1, performed by one of the Texas Hill Country’s best-known musical characters, Dr. Donald Crandall. Don has held a special place in many hearts through his gifted musicianship and compelling piano teaching. In musical terms, he will make it rain in the Cailloux Theater!
