About Us:
The ALT represents a type of venue that has proven vital to the growth of Buffalo’s art and cultural scene for decades. It is the rare place where talented artists can collaborate, creating outside the normal traditions and categories of performance and develop new ways to make audiences feel, think, laugh and cry.
The NEW ALT PERFORMANCE GROUP, a non-profit, 501c3 organization in residence at The Alt Theatre is in its fourth season of operation. In just four years we have produced over thirty-five theatre, dance, music and multidisciplinary productions. Our audience size has grown by sixty percent since 2008. The attendance figure for last year’s season was 3700 patrons.
BuildingBWThe ALT is located at 255 Great Arrow Avenue, which connects Delaware and Elmwood Avenues. We are conveniently located between two bus lines and there is ample free parking. Our theatre is handicap accessible with a manned elevator during all productions. We are just ¾ of a mile north of The Albright Knox Art Gallery and The Burchfield-Penny Art Center, a few blocks from The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, and walking distance to Delaware Park. The setting is a post-industrial complex that was once the heart of America’s famous Pierce Arrow.
