Our History:
In a city where improv was all games, Eric Farone returned to his hometown, Boulder, Colorado, after five fruitful years striving to perfect the art of improvisation at The Second City, Improv Olympic, and The Annoyance Theater in Chicago. He turned his skills to HeadGames, a local improv group, for which he played, and later owned, and directed.
Soon afterwards Farone spread his wings, and with the help of Denise Maes, began a ground-breaking, improv-based sketch comedy troupe in Denver known as The ACME Comedy Players. When the Chicken Lips Theater hosted the innovative new show, crowds flocked to see it every Wednesday night.
Farone and Maes grew the local improv scene further by creating the Players Workshop West which has now become The Bovine School of Improv, devoting themselves to training new players. Despite the workshop’s humble basement beginnings, it became the cornerstone of Denver’s improv community.
Operating on overwhelming demand, the tight-knit cast had a busy schedule, dividing six consecutive shows between the Avenue Theater and the Emerson Center. Even this busy schedule did not stop the comedic duo, as they went on to form the SansScript Players for the Players Workshop West students.
Juggling full-time jobs as corporate trainers along with their quickly blossoming improv careers soon became a challenge. The unstoppable pair, at last, found their own theater at 1527 Champa Street. The Bovine Metropolis Theater was born.
Their skillful management has led to seven different shows performing eight times per week, with over 50 graduating improv classes and numerous classes in session and new ones beginning frequently.
With the Bovine’s hot roster of shows and its fresh, talented new students, the Bovine experience is sure to satisfy and rejuvenate even those who have “seen it all.”
