Civic Opera Theater Of Kansas City


The Civic Opera Theater of Kansas City is a not- for-profit volunteer-based opera company dedicated to bringing quality light opera to new and expanding audiences in the Kansas City metropolitan area. For years, the company has been known for its outstanding productions of Gilbert and Sullivan and other light opera offer- ings, but in recent years it has also turned its attention to more dramatic but small-scale works such as Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw and Mark Adamo's new opera Little  Women.

For its 2003 season, the Civic Opera Theater offered Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Conrad Susa's holiday favorite The Wise Women.

For its 2004-2005 season, the Civic Opera Theater presented a special puppet opera presentation of Gilbert & Sullivan'sThe Mikado. Still to come is Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff, A Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol arranged by Gayden Wren, and Stephen Sondheim's Passion.

Statement of Purpose:
The Civic Opera Theater of Kansas City exists for the purpose of providing performers and technicians with the opportunity to use and develop their talents in the performing arts, and to promote, foster and enhance the cultural life of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
