Mission:
CBT is dedicated to providing excellent, professional quality dance performances, as well as first-rate instruction which enables students at every level to achieve their full artistic potential. This occurs in a welcoming, non-competitive, cooperative, focused environment where even sincere novices find loving encouragement and individual guidance helping them become their best. We also provide a great variety of educational programs through-out New York City. CBT seeks to foster an intelligent, holistic appreciation of dance as art, embracing and inventively using the form to expand appreciation of it, and, just as important, improve the lives of those in it.

Covenant Ballet Theatre of Brooklyn was founded by Marla Hirokawa in 1987 out of a conviction that serious ballet education would do more for the art form and the students than the "recital" school approach. Armed with little more than faith, Miss Marla's determination to honor both dance and budding dancers led to the creation of a unique training and performance method, one that has proven its worth and wisdom for more than a quarter-century.

Now a not-for-profit corporation, CBT continues to grow in diverse ways finding strength in a diverse student population and an equally diverse staff fulfilling Miss Marla's original vision for excellence without arrogance.
