About Us:
It is the mission of Nautilus Music-Theater to explore the dynamics of individual and communal integrity through the creation, development, and production of new operas and other forms of music-theater, along with innovative producitons of existing work.
Nautilus Music-Theater began in 1986 as a program of The Minnesota Opera. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Ben Krywosz, we provided the opera company with a living laboratory for some of today's most exciting composers, writers, directors, and performers. In 1992, we incorporated as an independent organization known as New Music-Theater Ensemble, with artistic leadership shared by Co-Artistic Directors Karen Miller and Ben Krywosz. In 1996, we changed our name to Nautilus Music-Theater.
We form partnerships between creators, performers, and audiences in order to contribute to the quality and diversity of new American music-theater. We create programs in professional training for artists, providing opportunities for the development and production of new music-theater, and establisheing institutional partnerships locally and nationally to share resources, programs and ideas. We envision an extended family of artists and audiences that uses music-theater as a tool to support the individual and collective growth of the human spirit.
Since 1986, Nautilus (formerly The New Music-Theater Ensemble) has been dedicated to the development of new operas and other forms of music-theater, along with innovative productions of existing work. Our goals include the formation of partnerships between creators, performers, and audiences, and the creation of professional training programs for artists. We use music-theater as a tool to create enriching experiences for artists and audiences, supporting the individual and collective growth of the human spirit.
