About Us
At Oregon Children's Theatre, we produce more than plays; we cultivate education. These opportunities promote creativity and confidence in students, while also supporting elementary and middle school classroom curriculum.
Acting Academy
With our Acting Academy, young people aged 4 to 17 connect with professional actors who are skilled at teaching the art and craft of acting. We offer year-round acting classes and workshops, which encourage confidence by building theatre skills in a fun, engaging environment. These small classes have an average student/teacher ratio of 12:1 or less. Our mentoring program, Young Professionals, provides additional training and professional opportunities for the more serious student.
Field Trip Productions
Each season Oregon Children's Theatre plays are presented to 70,000 to 90,000 students and teachers during classroom field trip productions. For many children, this is their first time attending a professional play. For teachers, these field trips promote classroom discussion, reading and language arts, while also connecting with daily lessons. Since 1990, we have provided over 45,000 free outreach tickets to schools that otherwise could not afford to attend.
School Services
As teachers face the challenge of limited resources, school field trips to see professional theater become important teaching tools. Our mission is: To advance growth, development and creativity through exceptional theatre experiences. Some of the ways we achieve this mission are by providing study guides and activity packets, Master Teacher workshops, and Loud & Clear workshops (for oral presentation skill development), as well as other resources that help teachers integrate theatre learning in their classrooms.
