About

social Circle Theater is a Not-for-Profit Community Theater dedicated to providing quality entertainment and a unified community through live local theater.Founded in 2000 by Bob and Mabel Standridge, the theater has produced well known productions such as Cotton Patch Gospel, Godspell Jr., Annie Jr., Once On This Island Jr. , and many more.

The theater is most known for its yearly community production Stories from the Well . Each year stories are collected from long time residents of Social Circle and surrounding areas. These stories are then adapted for the stage by a local playwright and performed by a cast of more than 100 volunteers who transform it to unforgettable theater. Each year a new script and original music are written and performed, bringing to life the stories that have shaped our town.

History

After seeing "Swamp Gravy" in Colquitt, Georgia, the Standridge family felt a similar theater in Social Circle would preserve the town's history and unify the community through story telling and folklore.

They then sought out Mr. Joey Fargar of Atlanta to create a folk life play from stories that have been passed down through the generations ever since a few town folk gathered around a well where a passerby dubbed it a "social circle". The theater has entertained and shared the history of Social Circle ever since. Through storytelling and dramatic acting, the theater takes patrons back in time, showing them what life was like in years past.

The Standridge family is passionate about offering as many opportunities as possible for our youth and community. In addition to our annual community production featuring as many as 75 local cast members, the theater has also been home to many popular hits such as, "Annie Jr.", "Godspell Jr.", "Once On This Island Jr.", "Really Rosie" and others.

Missoula Children's Theater comes every summer for a weeklong drama camp and production, bringing wonderful shows such as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "The Jungle Book." These productions bring in anywhere from 40- 70 local students, giving them the opportunity to learn about theater and giving them a place for their talent to shine and grow.
