505 NW 1st Avenue

Through compelling theatre, The Women’s Theatre Project creates an environment that explores the female voice. Spanning the generations, we are forging community partnerships to develop a legacy.

About Us:

The Women’s Theatre Project is the only professional theatre company in the country that is consistently producing theatrical works that are written and performed exclusively by women. Our theatre company is providing a truly unique cultural experience for South Florida audiences.

As we enter our fourth season of theatrical works written exclusively by women, The Women’s Theatre Project continues to explore unique programming options. Our productions are compelling because our choices break with stereotypical portrayals of women seen in the media, on television and in movies. We solicit and receive materials for our readings from around the world, and our productions provide our audiences with encounters exploring the full diversity of the female voice. The theatre professionals involved in our productions span generations, since they range in age from 20 to 80, and reflect the broad scope of races and cultures present throughout South Florida.

In addition to mainstage productions, we present staged readings in a format that allows our theatre company to continue pursuing our practice of “alternative casting” (casting women of diverse races who normally do not have the opportunity to perform certain roles). This practice ensures that our audiences can always identify with the women they see on stage.

The Women’s Theatre Project receives funding from individual and corporate sponsors, Broward County Cultural Affairs and Funding Arts Broward!
